Practice mispronunciations AT THE END of the dialogue.

Useful Vocabulary

“Lets learn four new words. We will use these words in the next part.”

Read each word, and ask student to repeat. Ask if the meaning of each word is clear. If not,

give a simple definition. excellent – very good spicy – like the taste of chili

creamy – thick, with lots of cream or milk crunchy – not soft and makes a sound when eaten

④ Practice Pattern Practice 1

“Lets practice today’s expressions using different food.”

“Lets try using the first picture - tempura. I will be A and you will be B. Let’s start.”

Practice mispronunciations AT THE END of the dialogue.

“Now, lets use the next picture - kimchi.” Practice mispronunciations AT THE END of the

dialogue.

EXPAND this part ONLY AS NEEDED

- For struggling students, practice the pattern with other food (e.g. fried chicken – crunchy).

+ For Level 5 students, ask them to think of a dish and use it in the pattern.

TEACHING NOTES

⑤ Challenge

This is a simulation of a real-life conversation.

Provide corrections AT THE END of the exercise.

1. GETTING INTO THE SITUATION

Set the mood by changing your tone.

“So, right now, we are in a restaurant. I am the waiter and I will ask you some questions about the food you ordered. Can you see the pictures?”

“Please answer my questions using todays expressions.”

2. GETTING INTO THE CHARACTER

Keep the conversation NATURAL.

Adjust the conversation based on the studentʼs level/pace.

- For struggling students, keep the conversation simple using similar patterns from Practice part/dialogue. See SAMPLE conversation flow below:

Tutor: Good evening. Are you enjoying your meal? Student: Yes! The food is excellent.

Tutor: How's the tonkatsu? Student: I like it. It's really crunchy.

Tutor: And hows the blueberry cheesecake? Student: I like it. Itʼs really creamy.

Tutor: I'm happy to hear that. Enjoy the rest of your meal!

+ For Level 5 students, EXPAND the conversation by integrating other questions or expressions. See SAMPLE conversation flow below:

Tutor: Welcome to Aloha Restaurant! Are you enjoying your food?

Student: (Yes! The food is excellent.) Tutor: How's the tonkatsu?

Student: (I like it. It's really crunchy.)

Tutor: Its one of our best sellers. Im glad you like it. Hows the blueberry cheesecake?

Student: (I like it. Itʼs really creamy.)

Tutor: Oh, good. Would you like to order anything else?

Student: (any answer)

Tutor: (respond accordingly)

End the conversation by saying:“I hope to see you again next time. Please enjoy the rest of your meal.”

At the end of the conversation, introduce new

words/expressions (i.e. best seller, Would you like to order anything else?).

“Great job! Now, you can describe different food using todays expressions.”
